Kate Marek is a Brisbane based visual artist who primarily focuses on painting landscapes ‘on location’, drawing inspiration from her travels around Australia. Kate is fascinated by the evocative power and painterly application of colour, primarily working with oils.

Kate has an extensive exhibition history in both solo and group shows. She has been a frequent finalist in prizes such as the Lethbridge Landscape prize, Lethbridge 20000 Small Scale, Revival Emerging Art Prize, Harden Art Prize and Clayton Utz. Kate most recently won the $20000 major prize in the 2025 inaugural Brisbane Queens Wharf Art Prize, as well as highly commended in the Lethbridge 20000 and winning the 2023 Fairholme Open Art Prize.

An artist for over 20 years, Kate has been an Artist in Residence at numerous Brisbane schools. Through a Creative Sparks Brisbane City Council Grant in 2024 she collaborated with Riverbend Ensemble where she produced a film of her work to accompany their performance.

Earlier this year Kate travelled to Tasmania to explore and paint the unique environment on Flinders Island with Idris Murphy. She has recently returned from the Nancy Fairfax artist residency at the Tweed Regional Art Gallery and Margaret Olley Arts Centre and is now developing bodies of work from both these locations.
